The new gas compressor station of Komotini is a further step that consolidates the European Continent’s supply capacity and energy security.
Bonatti is going to build on an EPC basis a new compression station for DESFA, the company that manages the National Natural Gas Transmission System in Greece. The location is the Eastern part of the country, not far from the borders with Turkey and Bulgaria, in a strategic area for the passage of the pipelines that make up the backbones of the “Southern Corridor”.
The new compressor station will supply the “Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria - IGB” pipeline and new Greek Consumers. It will be connected to Greece’s and to Bulgaria’s gas networks. The strategic goal is to strengthen supply to the south and centre of the European continent.
Bonatti will provide DESFA with engineering, procurement and construction of the plant. The scope of the work includes the installation of three state-of-the-art BH compressors (a possible expansion with a fourth compressor is already included). The plant’s “H2 ready” qualification is a very important feature of the new compression station, as it allows it to operate with hydrogen in view of future developments of the energy market.
The project is already in progress and will be run according to “fast-track” logic, with maximum compression of the work schedule, which will be completed in just 22 months.
This new contract confirms Bonatti in its role as EPC Contractor in Greece. It follows the experience of the “TAP - Trans Adriatic Pipeline” project in the country, with the construction of two thirds of the Greek section and the Motor Oil Hellas refinery of Corinth development project.
