Bonatti and Carlo Gavazzi Impianti will adapt the "Ettore Majorana" Power Plant in Termini Imerese (Palermo) to the new scheme of the electricity market. The project, assigned to our Group by the Italian Electricity Company Enel, has the aim of supporting the safety of the Italian distribution system and the supply of electricity to cover the load peaks in each area of the Italian grid.
The plant, named after the well-known Sicilian physicist Ettore Majorana, is located on the north-western coast of Sicily about 35 km from Palermo. The industrial area of approximately 300,000 m2 where the plant is located is owned by Enel Produzione SpA.
The “Ettore Majorana” power plant came into operation in the early sixties and has undergone several structural changes, extensions and transformations over the years, up to the current configuration: essentially a plant fuelled by natural gas consisting of four thermoelectric units with a total gross electrical power of 1340 MW.
The intervention assigned to the Bonatti Group involves the replacement of 2 of the 4 existing open-cycle thermoelectric units with 2 new turbogas units designed with the most advanced criteria of efficiency and environmental compatibility, in full compliance with the sector's "Best Available Techniques Reference document".
The multidisciplinary EPC project (engineering, purchase of materials, construction) acquired by Bonatti and Carlo Gavazzi Impianti together with the partner DB Service is related to supply and erection of the balance of plant (mechanical-electrical-instrumental and automation activity) and to the installation of the two 150 MWe open cycle turbines.
This is a "fast-track" project where the compression of execution timing will pool the multidisciplinary specialist skills of Bonatti in construction and mechanical assembly with the engineering and electro-instrumental competencies of Carlo Gavazzi Impianti.
In assigning the contract to the Bonatti Group, Enel considered as a priority the commitment to involve local companies and workers in the project.
Working at Bonatti means becoming part of dynamic team committed to achieving challenging objectives in international and multicultural contexts.
