Kiewit Bonatti TMEP Partnership, a Canadian general partnership consisting of Kiewit TMEP Corp. and Bonatti Canada Construction Inc., has signed an agreement with Trans Mountain Pipeline L.P. to build Spread 5B of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.
Kiewit Bonatti is responsible for pipeline construction and pre-commissioning activities. The construction of the 85-kilometre pipeline will extend from the Coquihalla Summit to Bridal Veil Falls, British Columbia.
The 5B Spread consists of rugged terrain that requires extensive engineering and construction planning. In addition to traditional pipeline construction techniques, Kiewit Bonatti will utilize a trenchless method under multiple watercourse and road crossings to minimize disruption to the surrounding area.
The original Trans Mountain Pipeline was built in 1953 and continues to operate safely today. The expansion project includes the twinning of the existing 1,150-kilometre pipeline between Strathcona County, Alberta and Burnaby, British Columbia. It will create a pipeline system with the nominal capacity of the system going from approximately 300,000 barrels per day to 890,000 barrels per day.
